‘Diverse Democracy’, the European Foundation Centre’s 2017 ‘Championing Philanthropy’ exhibition showcases, through a diverse range of projects by its members, how institutional philanthropy encourages and promotes democracy in Europe.
We are at a critical time in history. Liberal democratic values are threatened and today society is experiencing a wave of radical changes in opinions, values, beliefs and political views. These could be detrimental to the landscape of Europe as we know it, and now is the time to protect and encourage democracy as a defining feature of European politics, culture, citizenship and daily life. Through the diversity, innovation and creativity of our members’ projects we highlight the importance of democratic values and how these initiatives tackle today’s challenges and create a more inclusive, equal, and educated environment with opportunities for all. The projects showcased are a taster of the wide range of work being done to improve lives in a variety of countries and areas, including voting rights, citizenship and education. The aim? To open your eyes to new ways of thinking about democratic values.
